Too Big to Fail – ABC report exposes the risks of Bupa

Just as we have seen with our banks, in aged care size matters. Despite having 22 homes sanctioned, numerous ongoing audit issues, BUPA, home for almost 6500 or so elderly or requiring daily care Australians is considered too big to fail. The facts are clear, there are serious systemic failings with this service provider. Half the homes run by BUPA fail basic standards and 30% present a health and safety risk to elderly residents. A smaller operator would have its accreditation revoked and placed out of business. The issue with BUPA is where do 6500 residents go, who is there to care for them.

The message for families from this is ask the right questions when selecting a home.
