The path to aged care is not always straight forward. Fees are complex and the system can be difficult to understand. Most people simply don’t know where to start.
To help you make some initial decisions, consider the three main areas of aged care solutions and watch our introductory video.
Home Care
Most people want to live their life out at home. The Government offers subsidies for a range of services that can assist older Australians to stay living at home longer. You may consider home care if your aged loved one:
- Has trouble managing daily chores
- Has deteriorating eyesight
- Has difficult managing medication routines
- Has had falls resulting in injury or loss of mobility
- Needs help with transport
- Is increasingly less confident and independent at home

Residential Care
Residential aged care in Australia is subsidised by the Commonwealth Government and is governed by the Aged Care Act 1997. A range of care options and accommodation are available for older people who are unable to continue living independently in their own homes.
Residential aged care services, often called nursing homes, provide a range of care options and accommodation. The type of care ranges from personal care to assist with activities of daily living, through to nursing care on a 24-hour basis.
